RE: Florescent Lights - 2001 Dynasty - source???

We had a problem with a Thin-Lite and removed the cover and found two small diodes (16 cents each) replaced those about 7 years ago and had no more problems. If the ballast is bad it is normally cheaper to replace the whole light. CW and other RV supply sell replacement lights and the paper specfications are on a seperate sheet of paper supplied by the light maker as Monaco may change brands mid year.

RE: 3116 Cat

Agree with Wolfe10 on the HP thing. We had a '91 3116 210 HP with a 4 spd grossed 24,000 lbs plus a toad of 3500 lbs. We were very pleased with the preformance and fuel mileage was close to 11 mpg.

RE: Monaco - Online Help changed overnight!

Like most companies responses to questions are relative to what the volume is and scheduling and research required. I sent a question about some floorplan repo units and warranty issues and they required the VIN numbers. Took them 4 days but they did give a good answer including the "in service date" to plan by. They were very professional and accurate in the answer. Our next coach will be a Beaver as Monaco will be arround for the long haul IMO.

RE: Goodyear G670's whats your experience?

We have run the 275/70 R 22.5 H 670's for close to three years and the only problem was one was out of round and was replaced by Goodyear. They replaced G159's which replaced Toyos. Both companies have good customer service and do not seem to feel a MH tire is automatically overloaded and the MH owners are tire knowledge deprived like another brand's service representative I tried to talk to. It would be a choice between the above two but Toyo does not want to sell to us so Goodyear is it and makes a good product.

RE: Handy gadget everyone needs

Like the concept, it is very similar to the Vorad system but only works to the front and no side alert. Probably less expensive and may be able to retro fit at some point ing time.

RE: Gaylord Maxwell passed away Saturday

He set an excellent example of the best way to enjoy the time we are given on this earth. He also showed us how to give back to his passion of the RV life style by helping others to enjoy it. We all should be thankful of the positive impression he made on us all.

RE: Catapillar or Cummins

CAT is stopping production of on-highway engines when the 2010 emission standards are effective. They are still very much in the on highway business until 2010 and could have a vender supplied engine then. They support the CAT Chapter of the FMCA.com and say they will continue to do so. CAT and Cummins and you will see others like MB and possibly Mack enter the market being vacated by CAT and Detroit. They are all good and although a 15+ year CAT owner would not worry if my motorhome has any of the above. I would think more about side or rear radiator engine size and torque for the things you plan to use your coach for like how much will you tow.

RE: Aquahot Reservoir

You might want to check the hose from the radiator cap to the reservoir where it hooks to coolent tank. Would leak on top of the tank and was not evident until a close inspection.

RE: A knocking while driving ....

We had the deep knocking you mentioned and ended up replacing the control arms as their rubber bushings were shot. We had six and had to drop the LP tank to replace one of them. Any good truck suspension shop can do it but it cost over $1600 and the arms had to come from Monaco in our case and be custom made.

RE: Windshield separation

We have had the problem several times and got a couple of windshield "pics" from a glass shop and reseat ours ourselves. We leveled improperly and corner came completely out of the seal and we used the tools to work it back in. Wet the seal area and run the pic under the seal edge outside and inside (alternate sides) push on the outside of the windshield while doing it. It will slide back into place and it is a 20 to 30 minite job. RV should be at ride height and off jacks when you do it. The pic is nylon and less likely to cause a windshield crack than a screwdriver or butter knife and it is shaped for the job. The glass shop gave me the pics and one person can do the job but two can cut the time to less than half. Cost zero dollars.

RE: Overnite along I-95 in georgia

GA exit 49 Has Inland Harbor with pull through 50AMP no pool. Also factory outlet stores. Exit 1 in GA has a KOA with pool and Country Oaks w/o pool which we stay at. The exit 49 one has one of those Cafe Risque topless places accross the street. Never tried it but have eaten at the Waffle House close by (within walking distance).

RE: How to handle non-RV family that want to borrow your MH?

We have said no and that we do not rent our coach because our insurance policy does not allow it. Rental motorhome coverage is expensive for the average person and lending is the same as renting in the insurance companies mind. If the "kin" has a problem with it, that is not our problem. We have never had a problem after the statement above however.

RE: A lifespan of 40,000 miles for Bilsteins?

We had a Bilstein start leaking and after contacting them they sent me on at 50% of retail and after sending the defective one back credited me back. The only money spent was the cost of shipping back the defective shock and the installation costs if you do not do it yourself. Worst case is you get new shocks at 50% of retail if they say yours are still serviceable.

RE: Diesel availability in Florida

Some media reports of shortages but paid $3.999 in my home town last Saturday and filled up two gas family autos with not problem in our area and there are no lines or stations out of fuel. Listen to the news and everyone will panic and cause one however if the media has their way.

RE: Country Coach: A shadow of it's former self

Some floor plan sources may have buy back arrangements with the manufacturers of motorhomes. The arrangement if in force could put a capital strain on some larger RV builders as dealers fail. We think "no trade" buyers have a large advantage in the current market and there are some real bargins out there. The upside down trade and becoming more "upside down" are gone. Like the housing finance market the motorhome finance market is going back to an "equity required" phase which they never should have left.

RE: Natural Bridge, Va KOA

We over nighted there and son spent two days there a couple years ago and it was OK. We had a reservation for full hook ups and got water and electric and it rained about 6 inches but was OK with the campground. We stayed at the Yogi Bear closer to Natural Bridge on the way back and if we stop again would stay at the Yogi Bear but it is farther from I 75.

RE: Windshield has crack-now what?

Your windshield is a laminate of two pieces of glass and you probably have a crack in one layer. If so it will turn to the side as it works its way down and it is not an emergency to get fixed in the middle of a trip. Companies like http://rvglasssolutions.com/ work with insurance companies to get experienced installers to replace your windshield.

RE: Ft. Myers Snowbirds, Another dealer bit the dust

They primairly dealt in entry level RV's and that is the hardest hit. We looked at some new CC, Beaver and TS from the old Al's in Ft Pierce at Horizon Coach in Arcadia who is trying to liquidate for the bank that floor planned them and found tht prices were a bit high IMO. New 06 at 85% of dealer cost new. Warranty for non orphan units started when the bank repossessed the coaches which I confirmed with the manufacturers CC and Beaver. They are trying to get the bank to be realistic. We shall see.
